CPU London Expands Accessible Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Services with Opening of Second Clinic Location
CPU London is proud to announce the opening of its second clinic in Islington in April 2026.
For more than five decades, CPU London has provided high-quality psychoanalytic psychotherapy to Londoners experiencing long-standing and complex mental health difficulties. The new Islington site builds on CPU London's established home in Camden and marks the beginning of a major CPU initiative: the revival of Sigmund Freud’s Free Clinics Movement. In the nineteen-thirties, Freud and his colleagues aimed to create a network of accessible psychoanalytic psychotherapy clinics. Nearly one-hundred years later, CPU London has taken up this vision.
CPU London is recognised for its commitment to clinical excellence, offering individual and group psychoanalytic psychotherapy for up to two years. The organisation's approach provides people with an opportunity to explore their thoughts, feelings and relationships in depth, helping them better understand and address the underlying causes of emotional distress. People currently travel from across twenty-five London boroughs to access CPU London's services, demonstrating the growing need for specialist long-term psychotherapy. This second clinic marks a significant milestone in the organisation's mission to match that need.
CPU London is fully reliant on raising funds from individual donors, trusts and foundations, and cultural events. Majority-funded by a 3-year 'Reaching Communities' grant from the National Lottery Community Fund, our Islington clinic directly replicates the cost effective, clinically proven delivery model we have been running at our main clinic in Camden. The clinic will combine an experienced core clinical team with a group of psychotherapists in training, supported by a dedicated administrative staff. Once running at capacity, the new clinic will allow us to increase annual beneficiary numbers as an organisation by up to 40%.
The new Islington site is now open and accepting referrals and enquiries from adults across London seeking psychotherapy. Through a commitment to clinical excellence, social justice and accessibility, CPU London will continue to help individuals build deeper understanding, resilience and wellbeing.
Once we have effectively proven delivery in Islington we hope to expand to a third location in London, with our ultimate aim being a network of long-term psychotherapy clinics across London that can effectively respond to the ever growing mental health needs of disadvantaged Londoners.
CPU London is constantly looking for support. For anyone interested in learning more, or in donating to our work, please contact us at philanthropy@cpulondon.com.
“Yet there are so many more people CPU wants to reach. NHS cuts, the cost-of-living crisis, the toll of the pandemic – mean demand is hurtling upwards… We should all have access to mental wellbeing.”
