Our History

Camden Psychotherapy Unit is a registered charity providing free and low fee psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Since 1969, we have provided short and long term psychotherapy to people facing emotional distress and difficulties. We provide treatment to over a hundred people annually.CPU was set up with the co-operation of Voluntary Action Camden (VAC), Camden Council for Voluntary Service and the London Borough of Camden.

We soon became established as a specialist psychoanalytic psychotherapy service providing a highly valuable service to the NHS.We were always fully funded by local authorities and Camden NHS. This funding was withdrawn at the end of 2010 and we have launched an intensive fundraising campaign to allow us to stay open. CPU has been successful in fundraising through the Big Lottery Fund, individual donations, grants and fundraising events. However, our continued work depends on on-going fundraising efforts and the continued backing of our friends and supporters.
